Bloated after a meal? We’ll show you how to reduce bloating this Christmas!

Christmas is a wonderful time for spending time together, good food and joy! But perhaps you, too, can relate to that feeling of a bloated stomach after a meal when you’ve had a bit too much of the good stuff?

Here, we’ll show you how to avoid a bloated tummy this Christmas with 7 simple tips. Remember to save this checklist until it’s time for the Christmas feast!

1. Chew your food thoroughly

Did you know that the feeling of a bloated stomach after a meal can be down to something as simple as not chewing your food properly? When you chew your food properly, you’re actually helping with the first (mechanical) stage of digestion, so that your stomach can then break down the food more effectively, which in turn can reduce gas build-up.

So remember to chew your food every now and then!

2. Eat mindfully and be present

Eating mindfully and being fully present is also linked to creating a good environment for digestion. Enjoy what’s in front of you with both your taste buds and your eyes – that way, you’ll minimise the risk of feeling bloated after a meal!

3. Feeling bloated after a meal? Get moving every now and then

To reduce the risk of a bloated stomach after a meal (or if the ‘accident’ has already happened), it’s a good idea to get up and move about every now and then. When you move around, you actually help your digestion to work more efficiently, as it boosts circulation in the gastrointestinal tract. So have a walk or two between Christmas meals!

4. Make sure you drink plenty of water

Water – perhaps the simplest and best thing we have! When you drink plenty of water, you increase your body’s feeling of fullness (which can prevent you from eating too much and too quickly), but did you also know that water is essential for the speed at which your bowels move and empty?

So don’t forget to raise a glass to water as well!

5. Avoid ingredients that are particularly likely to cause flatulence

Some ingredients on the Christmas table can be particularly likely to cause flatulence. Beans, dried fruit, cabbage dishes, ris á la malta and onions are examples of foods that can upset the stomach. So do go easy on these ingredients at the Christmas table to prevent a bloated stomach, especially if you know you have a particularly sensitive stomach.

6. Reduce stress and prioritise recovery

Christmas peace – did you know it’s good for your tummy too? Stress can actually cause a range of stomach problems such as bloating, diarrhoea and constipation – and perhaps you’ve noticed that when you’re feeling anxious, your tummy feels anxious too? So remember to breathe properly and take a break. That way, you’ll be supporting your gut health from the inside out.

7. Use natural remedies that support gut health

There are natural remedies that support your gut health and help reduce bloating. FilVel Bowal The products available in the Bonimedics range can, for example, help relieve stomach discomfort and help reduce gas, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation. FilVel Bowal It also strengthens the immune system, improves digestion and reduces the risk of certain conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). One capsule a day is a good way to support gut health naturally, both during and after Christmas.

Psst! Throughout December and up to and including 7 January, you can use the code CHRISTMAS BALANCE SHEET 20, which gives you 20 per cent off the entire range at Bonimedics, including FilVel’s dietary supplements.

We at Bonimedics wish you a truly wonderful Christmas – with a less bloated tummy after meals, thanks to our 7 tips!
